SAVE A PANDA!
What are we doing?
We are running the Bangkok Marathon 2008 to raise funds to adopt a Panda at the Chengdu Research Base http://www.panda.org.cn/english/support/2.htm.
In our continued efforts to reduce carbon emissions students have been leading various projects across St Johns Group to reduce our energy usage.
While the students have been working hard to achieve this goal the senior management team have also been busy. Since June 2008 two members of St Johns Senior Management team have been training to run in the Bangkok Marathon, which takes place on the 23rd November 2008. This is a full grueling, backbreaking, 42.195 km marathon.
Why are we doing it?
On the 12 May 2008 an earthquake took place in the Minshang Mountains, China, which is wild panda habitat. It is here where the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is located. The research base is still working to address the immediate and long-term needs of animals and people living in the affected nature reserves. The effects of the earthquake are significant, and will challenge the operation of the Panda Base for some time in the future.
Who is doing the run?
Two of St Johns Senior Management Team are running to raise funds to adopt a panda: Dr. Peter Monthienvichienchai, Director of Saint Johns International School and Tony Atkinson, Head of Saint Johns English Media Centre.
